Perch
Yellow Perch
Perca flavescens — also called Perch, Ringback
One of the best-eating freshwater fish in North America and a winter staple in the Upper Midwest. Yellow perch school tight, feed actively in cold water, and are forgiving of beginner mistakes. Trophy 'jumbo' perch (12"+) are increasingly rare due to commercial pressure.

Summer
Scattered in main-lake basins (15–30 ft). Harder to pattern; drift-fish with minnows or troll small spinner rigs.
Fall
Re-school on rock and gravel transitions. Some of the best eating perch of the year.
Winter
Ice fishing classic. Small tungsten jigs with minnow heads or wax worms in 18–30 ft.
